Bio
Michael grew up around surveyors and surveying. He was always intrigued by surveying and would often accompany his father Michael S. Culler, Jr. on surveying jobs. His father started Culler Land Surveying in the early 1970’s located in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. Michael pursued his passion for surveying and took over the family business in 2012.
Michael attended Midlands Tech in the 1990’s, studying Civil Engineering and completed his Associates Degree in 2006 from Horry-Georgetown Technical College. He has been an active member of The Grand Strand Chapter of S.C.S.P.L.S. for the past twenty-two years, part of that time as an Associate member. He received his surveying license in 2011. After receiving his PLS license, Michael served on the local Chapter as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice-President, President and Chapter Representative and District 6 director. Currently Michael holds the position of Secretary on the SCSPLS on the Executive Board.
Michael has lived in the Grand Strand area most of his life. He currently resides in Lancaster, South Carolina with his wife of 10 months, Julie. Michael has two children, Julia (23 years old) and his son, Everett (12 years old) and a stepdaughter, Jordan (27 Years old).
Michael experience levels begin when he was in High School, working as a Rod man and Instrument man in the Family business (Summer breaks, Holiday vacations). After attending Midlands Tech, in Columbia, S.C., Michael went to work fulltime at the family business (Culler Land Surveying Co., Inc.) where he held a Crew Chief position and started his experience levels in Land Boundary, Topographic, As-Builts surveys. Culler Land Surveying, being located on the Grand Strand, Michael became very efficient in other types of surveys: Elevation Certificates, Dock permits, Subdivision design and constriction staking, ALTA/ACSM surveys. Michael then finished his degree at Horry/ Georgetown Tech, and he became a survey manager at Culler Land Surveying. This opportunity gave him the experiences in using CAD. Started use AutoCAD (Soft desk program) The company changed to AutoCAD using Eagle Point and finally changed to Carlson Survey.
Michael Experience levels in Survey equipment: Topcon instruments were used for the majority in the Family Business. Data Collection used for this equipment where: SMI then upgraded to Carlson. In the last three years Michael used Trimble GPS and Robotics and has currently learning Trimble Business Center.
